SPORT

Broncos Cup

Rugby League

The Grade 7 and 8 boys kicked off the carnival with a strong performance, finishing with 2 wins and 1 loss. After weeks of dedicated lunchtime training, the team—led by Mr Hurtz—came out firing with a solid win over Goondiwindi. Although they faced a setback in their second game against ACW, they bounced back with a convincing win over the combined Inglewood/Texas side.

It was a tougher day for our Grade 9 and 10 boys, who were hit with injuries early in the carnival. Despite a depleted lineup, they showed great resilience in their opening match against Killarney/Clifton/Allora. In their second game against Warwick State High, an agreement was made with Texas/Inglewood to share players, allowing more students to enjoy the game. Even with the added support, Warwick managed to break through late in the match to secure the win.

A special shoutout goes to Ted Bonner and Thomas Telfer for their outstanding sportsmanship and courage, backing up to play again for Inglewood/Texas in their final game.

Netball

Our Netball teams also had a brilliant day, with three teams proudly representing our school and delivering outstanding results:

  • The A Team played with heart and determination, finishing with 4 wins and just 1 narrow loss, including a close match against Assumption.
  • The B Team showed consistency and strong communication, also ending the day with 4 wins and 1 loss.
  • The C Team impressed with 3 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw, demonstrating resilience and excellent teamwork.

Both the B and C teams started the day with confident wins, setting a positive tone early on. Across all teams, the energy, sportsmanship, and pride in wearing our school colours were truly inspiring.

Congratulations to all our players and coaches!

Broncos Cup Update – Round 2 in Warwick!

Cross Country

On Tuesday, 20 May, a team of 28 primary and 15 secondary students from Stanthorpe travelled to the Kearney Springs Sports Complex in Toowoomba to compete in the Darling Downs Regional Cross Country Championships.

This prestigious event brings together students aged 10 to 19 years (Open) from across the region, making it one of the major highlights on our sporting calendar. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our athletes to test themselves against some of the best runners in the region.

The standard of competition was exceptionally high, with 50–60 students typically competing in each race. All of our representatives should feel incredibly proud of their efforts and determination on the day.

A special congratulations to our students who placed in the top 20:

  • Alanna Fox – 8th
  • Kai Fox – 18th
  • Georgia Robinson – 19th

Also representing St Joseph's with great spirit and sportsmanship were:
Poppy Wilshire, Beau Ponzo, Anthea Sunderland, Chloe Staley, Patrick Moxham, Erin O'Dea and Sophia Kunze.

All students displayed excellent behaviour throughout the day, and our secondary students were outstanding role models for their younger peers.

Well done to all involved!

Soccer

Today and tomorrow, a group of our talented students are representing St Joseph’s at the Darling Downs Football (Soccer) Trials for 11–12 Years.

  • Today, our boys are taking to the field, showcasing their skills and determination.
  • Tomorrow, it’s the girls’ turn to shine!

We wish all our players the very best in their efforts to secure a spot on the Darling Downs representative teams.
