Last year, Primary schools across the Toowoomba Catholic Diocese introduced a new approach to teaching reading, primarily impacting learners in P-2. This shift was informed by extensive evidence-based research from around the world, highlighting the effectiveness of a systematic and synthetic phonics approach for children learning to read.
Information sessions will be held next week to provide further insight into how reading is taught and to guide families on how to offer consistent support at home. Ensuring a unified approach between school and home can enhance learning outcomes and minimize confusion for children.
To accommodate as many parents and carers as possible, two identical sessions will be conducted:
-
Tuesday, 25th March at 8:40am in the Library
-
Wednesday, 26th March at 8:40am in the Library
Each session is expected to last for 50–60 minutes. While similar sessions were held last year, these will delve into greater detail and are open to all interested parents and carers. Registration can be completed by contacting the school office on 4681 5900.
