ACTING ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MISSION & IDENTITY
A Double Dose of Saints!
This week, we're doubling down on saintly celebrations!
St Patrick's Day was on 17th March and our very own feast day, St Joseph's, on 19th March.
Green with Grace: St Patrick's Day
First up, we turned a wee bit green for St Patrick. While we might associate him with shamrocks and stories of driving snakes out of Ireland, St Patrick's story is one of incredible courage. Imagine being kidnapped as a teenager and sold into slavery, only to return years later to the very land that enslaved you, armed with faith and a mission to spread the Gospel!
In our Mercy context, St Patrick's courage reminds us to stand up for what's right, even when it's difficult. It's about having the inner strength to face challenges with faith and hope. Maybe this week, we can all try to be a little braver, whether it's trying a new activity, speaking up for a friend, or simply facing a tricky maths problem with a bit more perseverance.
Our Patron: St Joseph, the Silent Hero
Then, we celebrated St Joseph, our school's patron saint on Thursday, with a whole school picnic and House Games. He's often called the "Silent Hero" because the Gospels don't record him saying a single word. Yet, his actions speak volumes. He was a carpenter, a loving husband to Mary, and a devoted father to Jesus. He embodies respect through his unwavering support of Mary and his commitment to raising Jesus. He exemplified service through his hard work and dedication to his family. And, most importantly, he showed immense compassion in accepting his role in God's plan, even when it was challenging.
St Joseph reminds us that true strength isn't always loud and flashy. It's often found in quiet dedication, in being a reliable presence, and in showing care for others. Let’s try to follow St Joseph’s quiet strength this week, by showing respect to everyone we meet, by offering a helping hand, and by being compassionate towards those in need.
What Can We Do?
- Serve: Look for opportunities to help others, just as St Joseph did. A simple act of kindness can make a big difference.
- Be Brave: Face challenges with courage, like St Patrick. Don't be afraid to try new things and stand up for what you believe in.
Let’s make this week a celebration of respect, compassion, courage, and service, inspired by the wonderful examples of St Patrick and St Joseph.
