Border Eisteddfod – Band
The St Joseph’s Band was formed in Term 2, 2021, under the direction of Mr Phil Ryan. Just over one year later, this small group of budding musicians performed with confidence and accuracy at the recent Border Eisteddfod. Most of the students in the group began learning their instrument only when they joined the band and their progress and focus is commendable.
Students participated in two sections in the Eisteddfod and the results are:
- Secondary Age Small Instrumental Group (3-12 players) - 1st place
- Secondary Age Small Instrumental Group - 1st Place
Hearty congratulations to all the students involved and a round of applause for their Conductor, Phil Ryan. Thanks also to Caroline Ryan who has been assisting in rehearsals and to Mitchell Hurtz for his practical support.
Border Eisteddfod - Choirs
St Joseph’s Primary Choirs participated in all the sections at the recent Border Eisteddfod, including the small group sections.
Despite many interruptions in our preparation for the competition, students have worked diligently to learn the music – and the words! Overall, the choirs performed well and we were delighted with the results:
- Tiny Tots Choir (Prep – Yr 2), 3-19 voices - 1st Place
- Tiny Tots Choir (Prep – Yr 2), 20 voices or more - 1st place
- Champion Choir in the Tiny Tots section - St Joseph’s
- Primary Age Choral Contest, 3-19 voices - 1st place Yr 6 McAuley
- Primary Age Choral Contect, 3-19 voices - Highly Commended Yr 6 Davadi
- Primary Age Choral Contest 3-19 voices - 1st place
- Sacred Song – Primary - 2nd place
- Folk Song – Primary - 2nd place
- Champion Choir in the Primary Section - St Joseph’s
Congratulations to all the students who have been involved. Many thanks to all the teachers for the support in rehearsals and on the day. A particular vote of thanks to Sarah Yates for her onging support and encouragement.

"Thank you, St Joseph's School for your commitment to this Eisteddfod.
It is truly a wonderful contribution to the local and wider community. Not to mention the experience and skill set, you are providing to the students.
Performing in front of a live audience, on stage sets these individuals up for success in the life because they learn how to be front and centre and experience the satisfaction of putting themselves forward and their voices being heard.
Students, keep performing, keep being brave, you will never regret having a go in life. You will only regret not trying."

Congratulations to all students who performed exceptionally well in last week's Eisteddfod. All students are to be commended on their efforts and for how well they acted in the capacity of the audience.
