Bill Turner Trophy

Bill Turner Trophy

On Wednesday 3rd of May St Joseph’s competed against Stanthorpe SHS, Warwick SHS and Assumption in a round robin Bill Turner Cup/Trophy Competition. Both teams started strongly with a win to the Girls 5-0 against Assumption and a close 1 all draw for the boys against Assumption. St Joseph’s teams are in a building phase as most of the team members are younger than their opposition and will be a force to be reckoned with in future years. The Boys Cup team were beaten in their next two games against Warwick SHS and Stanthorpe SHS however their never say die attitude and their strength on the ball against much larger opponents was to be admired. The boys played with tenacity and above all else good sportsmanship.

The St Joseph’s girls played their only other game against Stanthorpe SHS this was a hard fought game with the girls holding strong in the defense and seizing opportunities in attack to be leading 2-1 with 1 minute left in the game. A lull in concentration cost the girls a goal and the final score resulted in a 2 all draw. This result meant St Joseph’s narrowly missed out on moving through to the next round due to goal differences.

Both teams showed good sportsmanship in both victory and defeat, it is an exciting time for St Joseph’s School Football as future years will see these young players develop into a force to be reckoned with
